Wonderful Things Seen

It's been a long time since my last post. Long enough to have left Europe, and missed it. Lots. Today has been a nice day for memories; these videos are a nice peek into my stay in the Spanish Pyrenees.

More to come, soon.

Here's to places traveled and the sweet slowness of being home.

New Drawings and Process

These are out of order but I don't feel like moving them.

It's been a while since I've posted anything, so here's a bunch of images from my sketchbook and process for projects I'm working on. The drawings of Sonic are related to a live brief we are doing for YCN. The brief is for Sega, and prompts us to design a piece that celebrates Sonic's 20th anniversary. I've done a few idea-changes, and am now compiling a book of Sonic fan art, hopefully including fan interviews as well. So, if you know anyone who has any sort of experience with Sonic, or fan art of Sonic, please let me know!

These sketches are for the 2nd year design&illustration fundraiser club nights, rather crassly dubbed 'fingerbang'. Julie & Lauren(studying from KC, MO) and Michael and I have been invited to do the poster for the next club night. Michael and I did the illustrations, and Julie and Lauren did the graphics! I think they'll be screenprinted, which will be quite nice!

This is a bit of process work for a project called 'Exhibition in an Envelope', in which I am making a series of posters about the telegraph pole in England. I'm primarily going to focus on structure and components, borrowing aesthetic touches from the telegraphs themselves.
Aaand all this is just random sketchbook doodling.

You know, I am in a stuck place.

Every day I think I want to do something else. The truth is, though, that while I am thinking about all the things I want to do (ex. in the last week I've wanted to be a backpacker for money, owner of a bookstore, owner of a tea/coffee shop, organic farmer, hobo, book designer, designer/fine artist, nice things maker, art director, hermit in a cabin, etc etc), but anyway, while I am thinking about all the things I want to do, I am not actually doing anything.

So I guess I just drew some pictures of myself and also Sonic the Hedgehog. GO GO GO GO GO!

That was a chant so that maybe I will feel like there is a large crowd waiting for me to score 90 goals (aka make good stuff).

I mean, damn, I'm in Brighton-the land of TIME.

WHOA. Look at the clock! It's TIME TO GOOOO!

tee hee

Here are two recent photos from my life. Friends 4Ever!

New Graphic Design Work, WOWOW!

For Erik Brandt's Type 2 class. A postcard celebrating the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners. Sent to the 4th Annual Chile Design Biennial.

For Kindra Murphy's Graphic Design 2 class. A process book documenting and showcasing my typographic and image-based experimentation for a 3 part poster series.

For Greg Beckel's Electronic PrePress class. A full-bleed booklet illustrating a poem by Pablo Neruda.

The aforementioned 3 part poster series for GD 2.

For PrePress. A 3 layer postcard series in CMY, K, and PMS Gold. Exploring the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Below are some experiments from the press; turning on and off press units resulted in some exciting color combinations!

You can see more on my flickr!

Hope you are enjoying the snow! It's so gorgeous outside...
